Power of Veto #12 (Growing Up)

Power of Veto #12 (Growing Up) 600x338-toystory-characters

No toy gets left behind.

Andy is growing up fast and he plays with his beloved toys a lot less. He has moved on to board games. His favourite one being the one we will be playing tonight.

Spoiler:

For those unfamiliar with the game, here is a link for you to read and get familiar with it. I will give you 15 minutes to read over everything and post on this thread that you are here and participating. If you do not post on this thread by 8:30 p.m.EST, you will not play.

Link to Yahtzee game rules: http://www.math.cornell.edu/~mec/2006-2007/Probability/Yahtzee.htm

We will be following the same basic rules. You will get 3 rolls per round and there will be 13 rounds. There will not be Yahtzee Bonus in this challenge.

Score Sheet

1's: _____
2's: _____
3's: _____
4's: _____
5's: _____
6's: _____

Upper Bonus: _____

Bonus: At the end of the game, you get a bonus of 35 points if the total number of points you scored in the upper section is 63 or higher. The seemingly random number 63 corresponds to having scored a combination with three dice of the corresponding face value in each of the upper section boxes (though any upper section total of 63 or greater is rewarded with the bonus).

3 of a kind: _____
4 of a kind: _____
Full House: _____
Small Straight: _____
Large Straight: _____
Yahtzee: _____
Chance: _____

I added a Dice feature to the forum. You can test it if you want for fun, I believe you should see it as well although I'm not sure. It's at the bottom of the post when you write a new post. Under the preview and send button, to the left, you will see "DICES ROLL" and under that you will see "Dices roll #1" with a box beside. If you click in the black square, it will give you an option to pick dice 1,2,3,4 or 5. Beside that you see a white box with a 1 in it. You click the + sign to add dices. In this challenge, we will use 5 dices so you would want to put 5 dices so you get 5 rolls. This is just for you to test the feature out, but I will be rolling the dice for everyone.

Now on to how we will go about the rolls.

The order will be in which order you post to check in on this thread. The first person will start round #1

Roll 1: You post the word "Roll"
Roll 2: You tell me which dice you want to keep with your 5 rolls
Roll 3: You tell me which dice you want to keep with your new rolls

Once you're done rolling, you will tell me where you want to add it on your score card.

The person with the most points at the end of 13 rounds will win the Final 5 Power of Veto.

Rules

- To speed this up, I ask that you be alert. You will be given 90 seconds per roll and then 120 seconds to pick where you put it on your score card.
- If you fail to post in time, everything will be re rolled. If you fail to post once all 3 rolls where you want to put it on your score card, it will go in the first slot available going from top to bottom (1's to Chance)
- You do not have to use all 3 rolls if you get what you want before that point. You just have to let me know you're done and where you will put it on your score sheet.

Please ask questions now so we don't have to halt the challenge. I know this could be a long one so I want to try and make it as seamless as possible.

Rules and Scoring

The game takes thirteen turns. Each turn consists of up to three separate rolls of the dice. On the first roll you roll all five of the dice. After the first and second roll, you can hold any subset of the five dice you want (including none of the dice or all of the dice) and roll the rest trying to get a good combination. After the three rolls (or after the first or second roll if you choose to stop) you must find a place among the thirteen boxes in the scorecard to put your score. The score you get depends on the box that you choose and the combination that you have rolled. After a box is used, you can't use it again, so you have to choose wisely. This means that, in general, you don't have to choose the box that gives you the highest score for the combination you have rolled, since it may be advantageous to save that box for an even better roll later in the game. In fact, there are many situations it which it makes sense to put a 0 in a "bad" box instead of a low score in another "good" box because doing so would block the good box for future turns.

The Yahtzee scorecard contains two sections: the upper section and the lower section.

The Upper Section
In the upper section, there are six boxes, each corresponding to one of the six face values of the dice. For these boxes, you enter the sum of the dice with the corresponding face value (and ignore all other dice). For example, if you roll 5 3 3 5 3 you may enter a score of 9 in the third spot or a score of 10 in the fifth spot.

The Lower Section
Here you can score for various combinations.

3 of a kind: Score in this box if the dice include 3 or more of the same number. The score is the total of all five dice (unlike the upper section, where only the dice of one number are summed).
4 of a kind: Score in this box if the dice include 4 or more of the same number. The score is the total of all five dice.
Full House: Score in this box if the dice show three of one number and two of another (for example, 2 6 6 2 2). The score is 25 points.
Small Straight: Score in this box if the dice show any sequence of 4 numbers (for example 3 2 4 4 5). The score is 30 points.
Large Straight: Score in this box if the dice show any sequence of 5 numbers (for example 5 2 4 6 3). The score is 40 points.
Chance: Score in this box with any combination. The score is the total of the five dice.
Yahtzee: Score in this box if the dice show five of the same number. The score is 50 points.

Is this something I can do without knowing how to play? Like is this luck based? I read the rules but I don't understand. Complicated board games aren't my specialty. Laughing

Power of Veto #12 (Growing Up) Empty Re: Power of Veto #12 (Growing Up)

Tiana here is a couple example rounds.

Round #1

Roll 1: 5,3,4,1,1

I notice that I can start a straight here with 1,3,4,5 so I say I am keeping 1,3,4,5 and rolling 1 of the 1's again.

Roll 2: 3

Well that's not really what I was looking for. I wanted a 2 for the Large Straight or a 6 for the Small Straight. So I tell the host to roll the 3 again

Roll 3: 6

I now have a Small Straight with 3,4,5,6 so I lock it in and say that I want to apply this round to my Small Straight. Now that is used so I can't use Small Straight again.

Now let's use the same example but let's say I got a 3 again on my 3rd roll. I have nothing really worth anything so I say I will use Chance. Which is like a freebie and you get your 5 dice added so it would be 1,3,3,4,5 total is 16.

Using again the same example but instead of picking Chance, you say Eff this, I'll just use up my 1's. You only have one 1 so you would get 1 point on your 1's spot.

No Tiana. First of all she should have rolled 5 dice because that's the game. But using the 3 she did do, she got all 2's so I would be going for my 2's, 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind or Yahtzee. Depending on how many 2's I can get by the end of the 3 rolls.
